I just got off the phone with Pastor Paul Holt and we were discussing the plight of Rio Arriba County New Mexico residents who are stuck with a renegade Sheriff in Tommy Rodella. For me it is hard to phantom that New Mexico Governor Martinez and Attorney General King say nothing about this mess. And to think that the residents of New Mexico only have the choice between Martinez and King for Governor, as these two poor leaders are running for the office of Governor this year. How about the State Legislators that serve that area? Who holds a renegade Sheriff accountable? New Mexico has a leadership problem, to stand for what is right! It’s on both sides of the aisle. The County Commissioners want this Sheriff out. What do the citizens think? Are they scared to speak up against this Sheriff, in some ways I don’t blame them. For many, corruption in Rio Arriba county is a way of life. I know, I have reported on it for 10 years, and I managed KKIM FM Christian radio that served much of Rio Arriba County and would take phone calls from folks telling me of the problems in government. I have visited Churches in the area and people would share with me of the troubles. Sheriff Rodella is accused of roughing up a motorist has opted not to appear before state officials to challenge his law enforcement license suspension.
Rio Arriba County Sheriff Tommy Rodella did not attend a state Law Enforcement Academy Board hearing Wednesday for an appeal.
Officials say the move means his suspension stands.
Rodella doesn’t need law enforcement certification to serve as sheriff, although he cannot perform police duties such as make arrests himself.
Rodella was indicted in federal court last month for conspiracy to violate a motorist’s civil rights during the March encounter. He was pleaded not guilty.
The Rio Arriba County commission has issued a strongly worded letter calling for Rodella to resign. The County Commissioners have shown guts, where are the guts of the other so called leaders?
This is not the first time that Rodella has bucked the law and the system of Justice.
Rodella says he plans to stay on.
Pastor Paul Holt says, “It is up to the people of Rio Arriba County to stop the lawlessness and nepotism of this renegade Sheriff.”
Is this the type of role models New Mexico holds up to it’s youth?
