SantaFeSeveral from the Christian community came to Santa Fe last evening to testify against Mayor David Coss and Councilor Patti Bushee’s Resolution asking New Mexico county clerks to issue illegal “marriage” licenses to homosexual couples. The Mayor and his City Attorney, Geno Zamora, insist that homosexual “marriage” is legal because the law does not specify otherwise.
The homosexual organization Progress Now launched a well-coordinated and well-timed effort in collusion with City officials, holding a candlelight gathering prior to the 7:00 p.m. meeting. The Mayor announced, when the Resolution was introduced at the end of the 5:00 p.m. meeting, that a “vote” would not be taken on the issue until April 4.
What the Mayor failed to say was that testimony would be taken during the City Council’s evening’s session. The Resolution did not appear on the agenda.  Many who had come from as far away as Belen, Los Lunas and Albuquerque were disappointed and were lead to believe by the Mayor’s statement that the issue would not be heard.   They subsequently left the chambers.
Prior to the meeting Mayor Coss sent a letter on City stationary to County Clerks throughout the state urging them to issue marriage licenses to homosexual couples. Councilor Buchee sent out a press release on City stationary urging homosexuals to coordinate their county clerk requests for homosexual “marriage” licenses with the ACLU and Equality New Mexico.
Clearly opposition to the Resolution had been manipulated into silence and support was fostered by our elected officials.
About twenty-five homosexual couples lined up to give two-minute “petitions from the floor” before the council. Those remaining from the Christian community numbered about five, three of whom testified.   An uproar with howls and shouts of “get him off the stage” from the assembled homosexuals occurred when, contrary to the “we love each other and should have the right to marry” was countered by the suggestion that the homosexual community’s inability to procreate rendered those “marriages” not equal. “They can’t have babies,” resulted in a minute long verbal outcry from those assembled.
The facts about Mayor Coss and Pattie Bushee’s homosexual Resolution are these:
1. The New Mexico State Legislature is the only body that creates and passes on laws for the state. Despite yearly legislative attempts to codify homosexual “marriage” in the state, all have failed.
2. The absence of a law does not allow for the creation of a procedure that is as unprecedented and unauthorized as homosexual “marriage” would be in the state.
3. The only opinion on which this debate is based is on the opinion of one lawyer, that of the City Attorney of Santa Fe.
The City of Santa Fe was informed of your prayers. To us, that remains the abiding issue of the evening. Only in Him and only in prayer can we remain faithful.
