The defense rested in Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s murder trial without calling a single witness, including Gosnell himself.

Jack McMahon, the defendant’s attorney, made the announcement to rest his case one day after presenting its side.

The jury is expected to hear closing arguments Monday.

Gosnell faces four first degree murder charges for killing four babies born alive in a clinic authorities have described as filthy.

And he’s charged with third degree murder in the overdose death of a 41-year-old female patient.

Three workers already pleaded guilty to third-degree murder charges, admitting to helping medicate the woman or to snipping the necks of babies born alive to make sure they died.

The judge dismissed three murder charges earlier this week, saying there wasn’t sufficient evidence to submit to a jury.

The assistant DA said babies born alive deserve to be treated as human beings.
