So successful was Friday’s Twitter event that another is planned for Wednesday, April 17. Pro-life groups are asking for everyone to tweet under the hashtag: #Gosnell. After a perceived “media black-out” on coverage of the murder trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, Twitter proved to be quite useful in breaking the silence; and another “tweet-up” is planned for Wednesday, April 17th. According to a report onLifeSiteNews.com, pro-life organizations were encouraged last week to send tweets containing “#Gosnell” in an effort to send the subject into a trend.
On Friday, between the hours of 6am and 6pm eastern time, over 166,800 tweets had been sent, effectively placing #Gosnell—and information regarding the trial—near the top trending position.
Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, one of the pro-life groups sponsoring the tweetfest, said, “The tweet-up was a huge success and did what it was intended to do, and that was to show the mainstream media that there is a huge interest in seeing coverage of the Gosnell murder trial. We hoped that the tweet-up would pressure the media to cover the story.”
In what was referred to on NBC as the “house of horrors murder trial,” many shocking facts have been revealed regarding Gosnell, such as his practice of cutting the spinal cords of babies with scissors after they were born to ensure that they died, and the death of a 41-year-old patient at the clinic. Other even more gruesome details have come to light over the last 4 weeks of the trial, which resumed on Monday.
Among the testimonies given against Gosnell, Ashley Baldwin—a worker at his abortion clinic for about 7 years—told of how women would be “drugged into stupors” to deliver their babies only to have their little necks “snipped,” killing them.
The next “tweet-up” is planned for Wednesday, April 17th. Participants are encouraged to use the hashtag: #Gosnell in postings from their Twitter accounts to continue to bring awareness of the Gosnell murder trial.
