A Bible publishing company has scored a victory in its fight against Obamacare’s contraception mandate — and it may owe the victory to the White House.
The Alliance Defense Fund says the government requested a federal appellate court dismiss its own appeal of a court order, which blocked the administration from enforcing its abortion pill mandate against Tyndale Publishers.
That means the order will stand while Tyndale’s case against Health and Human Services moves forward in court.
The ADF, which is representing Tyndale, was pleased with the government’s decision.
“Bible publishers should be free to do business according to the book that they publish,” ADF senior legal counsel Matt Bowman said. “The government dismissed its appeal because it knows how ridiculous it sounds arguing that a Bible publisher isn’t religious enough to qualify as a religious employer. For the government to say that a Bible publisher isn’t religious is outrageous, and now the Obama administration has had to retreat in court.”
