https://www.nbcnews.com/id/52174596. A funny but concerning article. This article is an example of what occurs everyday throughout this nation. Despite the numerous examples of guns saving lives, liberals continue to call for the ban and elimination of guns in this nation.
Despite the historical roots of gun ownership in this nation, there are many current reasons why the gun debate is off the mark. We have our United States Supreme Court indicating that the 2nd Amendment is a fundamental right guaranteed to be protected by our Constitution and applicable to individual gun ownership. The 2nd Amendment has now been incorporated through the 14th Amendment and now applies to all states as well. Nevertheless, the onglaught against gun owners continue. Sure there are the emotions of gun ownership on both sides. The horrible stories of tragedy that occur on children, adults and unsuspecting victims at the hands of the mentally unstable or criminals. Equally compelling are the emotional pleas that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” Yet despite these arguments what is being lost is the tradition that freedom loving people have with gun ownership. The history of the gun debate really started around the time of slavery when ex-slave owners sought to take away the rights of freed slaves from protecting themselves from Jim Crow laws and treatment. Today’s liberals, however, seem to have lost sight of the historical significance guns play in the freedom of people groups, such as ex-slaves. Time and space prevent me from reciting the long list of tyrants who first took away guns before taking away liberty: Stalin, Hitler, Castro and the list goes on.
Even if common sense cannot move one to support private gun ownership maybe history and law can. I encourage you to read the opinion of the United States Supreme Court. They did a great job of giving a full and complete view of one’s right to protect oneself. A view that is often lost on the knee jerk emotions of those who oppose firearms. I cannot add to the well written and reasoned opinion of our jurists and the need for private citizens to own firearms. Maybe reason will persuade some. Read the opinion and choose for yourself . . . https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/09pdf/08-1521.pdf
