Former President George H.W. Bush celebrates his 89th birthday Wednesday, and his library wants people to honor him with one of his new trademarks — very bright socks.
The George Bush Presidential Library Foundation is asking people to wear “exuberant socks” and post pictures of them on the library’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
“Select birthday sock photos will be chosen and given to President Bush for his 89th birthday,” the library says.
The elder Bush has become even more famous of late for his exotic footwear, from an American flag motif to the bright pink and blue number he sported at the dedication of the library for his son, former President George W. Bush.
The library notes that the elder Bush once told granddaughter Jenna Bush Hager that he “likes a good sock.”
Happy birthday, Mr. President.
