The U.S. Supreme Court sent a Texas affirmative action case back to a lower court Monday in a 7-1 ruling.

A caucasian woman named Abigail Fisher claimed University of Texas discriminated against her when it rejected her application under it’s race-conscious admissions program.

University officials have defended the policy, saying it’s necessary to ensure campus diversity.

Meanwhile, the court is set to rule on the federal Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8, the measure passed by the state’s voters defining marriage as between one man and one woman.

The justices will also rule soon on coming cases involving voting rights, private property, workplace discrimination, and generic drugs.
