A Quilt with Tears

By: Angel L. Murchison

At a local Christmas outreach a raffle was being drawn for a homemade quilt. I glanced at it setting on the bench by the Christmas tree wondering why it was there. You must be present to win my pastor announced. Some people had left or went outside to smoke. A man’s name was called, not there, another name drawn, not there. Then a woman’s name was called. She began to jump up and down and cry. She ran up and received the quilt. She loved it. She was so blessed. Everyone around her was blessed as they shared in her excitement.

I was leaving the church to go home that day. There she sat in the lobby of the church with a man she was with, awaiting a ride home. A man said God loves you and he wanted you to know how special you are. She hugged her quilt and with tears in her eyes she replied I feel loved today, I have never had anything this nice before. She held the quilt up against her tattered blue coat with a smile and a glow that would make your heart leap for joy. It made me think of the scripture rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep (Romans 12:15) I so rejoiced with her.

Oh Lord how much we take for granted, a warm blanket, a quilt. To someone that is a priceless gift. I pray Lord as she wraps her body in that patchwork quilt she will remember how much you love her. Wherever life may take that lady in the tattered blue coat may she remember the day you handpicked her to receive that special quilt. Most of all Lord may she know the greatest gift given your son Jesus. May she feel the warmth of his love each and every day.

I pray for the readers today Lord that your love would saturate their being. That they would wrap themselves up in the love of Christ and lay all their burdens at your feet. I pray no matter what they need Oh God whether a warm blanket, a cold drink, or a warm embrace, you would provide.

I pray for faith for your people to pray believe and receive according to the word of God. For your word is yes and amen.

Today we receive.
