Jackie Robinson

Picture of Jackie Robinson, who became the first black player to play in the Major Leagues, thanks in part to the determination of baseball Executive Branch Rickey. Rickey picked Jackie for this challenge to break the race barrier in baseball. I have read many books on Jackie Robinson and seen an old movie about his life story, but the Movie, 42, which I saw last night, reinforced with me the strong man of God Jackie was, he was a Methodist like Branch Rickey. Robinson had such a toughness about him, but it was under control. I am reminded that meekness is not weakness, it is power under control. Jackie Robinson kept his power under control and fueled it toward the his family, baseball, and the rights of other black players to play in the Major Leagues. God ordained Branch Rickey to be the first Baseball Executive to stand up against the baseball establishment and their racism and God ordained Jackie Robinson to be the first black player to stand up against all the awful hate toward  black players. They both were men of God, I have studied their lives, they heard from God and answered the call.

So as I go on in my life in serving God, I was reminded last night in watching the movie, 42, that we are here to serve and pave the way for others, meaning helping bring others to Jesus Christ.

And let us remember that meekness is POWER UNDER CONTROL, not out of control.

Thank God for the lives of Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey.
