At the Lake Superior Community Health Center in Duluth, Minnesota, there’s a new plan for connecting residents with health insurance coverage this fall.
The clinic has joined with other community groups to apply for a state grant that would place extra outreach workers across town to link uninsured residents with coverage available through the federal health care overhaul.
But at the health center’s outpost in nearby Superior, Wis., there is no comparable plan.
The existing outreach staff at the Superior clinic will do their best to help patients connect with the new health insurance options, said Jessica Crowley, the health care access office coordinator at the clinic. But in Wisconsin, there’s just a fraction of the new money that’s available in Minnesota to fund outreach efforts.
