NM Watchman Jose Vasquez has this report on today’s decision by the NM Supreme Court:
The precedent is very clear; all public entities are required to serve the homosexual community regardless of their religious beliefs. Anything homosexuals desire that exists in the public arena must be provided them or face a lawsuit.
Legislation to shield against such religious discrimination was introduced by Representative Dennis Roch (R-Tucumcari) during New Mexico’s last legislative session. HB 98 would have created a “religious belief exemption,” allowing persons with deeply held religious beliefs to be exempt from performing services that violate their conscience. The bill failed to survive even the first committee.
As any observer in the public arena will attest, granting the “right” to demand services creates a privileged class and grants that group special dictatorial powers. In the words of George Orwell’s Animal Farm; “some are more equal than others.”
Please pray that our religious convictions will find a resounding and convincing voice in our churches and in our collective civic lives.
Yours in Christ,
