The New Mexico Supreme Court will hold a hearing on Oct. 23rd on the legality of same-sex marriage in the state. This comes after anarchy broke out in several New Mexico Counties issuing same-sex marriage licenses. I believe that this is the first time in the history of the United States that same-sex marriage is being allowed in a state, county by county, meaning not a state-wide ruling. Until Friday, the Supreme Court had denied requests to take over and consolidate pending gay marriage lawsuits. Seven Counties are issuing same-sex marriage licenses at this time, with Grant County saying it will become the 8th on Monday. Attorney General Gary King has been silent through this mess.
