No Challenges to Constitutionality, Therefore, the 20-week Ban Goes Into Effect at Midnight Tonight

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Tomorrow, October 29, 2013, Texas joins 41 other states who have banned late-term abortion. The Texas law, which was passed in July, bans late-term abortion at 20 weeks and beyond. In addition to the late-term ban, the Ambulatory Surgical Center requirements will go into effect September 2014.

 

“It is exciting that Texas has passed this common-sense legislation to protect women and children in their state and we look forward to the day that Albuquerque will have the same common-sense protections,” said Elisa Martinez, executive director of Protect ABQ Women & Children. “The fact that this ban, which prohibits abortions 20 weeks and above, passed without challenge implies its constitutionality and gives us even more confidence that Albuquerque voters will rise up to pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance.”

 

In July, members of Protect ABQ Women & Children, along with other pro-life groups, turned in nearly 27,000 signatures, more than double the necessary needed to put the measure on a city-wide ballot, in half the allotted time. Protect ABQ Women & Children is a local advocacy campaign that is working to raise awareness of the dangers of the late-term abortion industry in Albuquerque and to garner support for the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance,” which bans abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy.   1. Just 2 provisions that are minor, were ruled unconstitutional, the 20 Week Abortion BAN will go into effect TOMORROW!

    The 2 provisions that were deemed “unconstitutional” were regarding hospital admitting privileges and FDA protocols concerning the administration of the abortion drug RU486. The 20 week abortion ban will go into effect tomorrow.
