The Issue:
Next Wednesday, October 23, is a very important day for New Mexico.

The New Mexico Supreme Court has been asked by New Mexico’s County Clerks to decide on the issue of homosexual “marriage” licenses.

Background:
Two liberal New Mexico judges have ordered their county clerks to issue same-sex marriage licenses. The two are County Clerk Maggie Toulouse Olive from Bernalillo County and County Clerk Geraldine Salazar from Santa Fe. Both clerks support same-sex marriage and are issuing homosexual “marriage” licenses, as are clerks in six other counties. A group of homosexuals is suing all New Mexico clerks for the issuance of homosexual “marriage” licenses.

The attorney for the county clerks is State Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto. At the 2009 Democratic Convention, Senator Ivey-Soto introduced a successful motion to amend “gay marriage” with the words “marriage equality.” The motion passed and is now part of the Democratic platform.

Representing other county clerks is Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a Christian legal organization that has submitted a “friend-of-the-court” brief for traditional marriage. The lawyers for Alliance Defending Freedom are Joseph LaRue and Jim Campbell. Mr. LaRue* is a pastor as well as a lawyer and has litigated before the U.S. Supreme Court.

If You Can Attend:
The New Mexico Supreme Court is located at 237 Don Gaspar Avenue. The building entrance faces De Vargas Street. The hearing is to begin at 9:00 a.m. and will last for one hour. Doors open at 8:00 a.m. A large number of people will arrive by 7:00 a.m. or earlier.

The courtroom itself has a small seating area with 30 permanent chairs. Additional seating will be provided in the courtroom but negotiations are being undertaken to reserve this seating for county clerks only.

Two additional rooms with a capacity of around 110 seats, furnished with closed circuit TV, are being made available. More seating may be added in theses areas. Justices are politically astute and an overflow crowd of supporters of traditional marriage would be extremely desirable.

What is Needed:
What is most needed in New Mexico is prayer. Please pray for the Supreme Court Justices, the proceedings and especially our lawyers, Joseph LaRue and Jim Campbell. Please communicate with the Justices and please join us in Santa Fe on October 23.

God bless you and please pray.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel,
because it is the power of God that brings salvation
to everyone who believes:
Romans 1:16a

In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations
with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.
Men committed shameful acts with other men, and
received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
Romans 1:27
