Once again, the IsraAID international emergency relief agency was among the first to send teams to a major disaster area, arriving in Tacloban City in the storm-ravaged Philippines on Saturday night even as the mego-Typhoon Haiyan continued to wreak havoc in the island nation. Varying estimates have between 10-12,000 dead and many tens of thousands more injured as a direct result of the storm, while many more people have been made homeless and separated from their families, especially children. “It’s really hard to get any accurate numbers as far as [the scale of the] damage is concerned,” IsraAID founding director Shahar Zahavi said. “The immediate goal and first priority is to be aware of the whole injury side of the situation. I also note on the day after our Marine Corps Birthday, that Marines are now also on the scene providing logistical support in addition to a great ability to provide search & rescue assistance!!! Haven’t heard anything yet, but I’m also prayerful that some of our Navy ships are en-route also as they have tremendous logistical help to provide and an amazing ability to produce fresh drinking water for these folks!
We must all PRAY & do everything we can to help these people overcome this horrific event!
