Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Moscow on Wednesday for a meeting with Russian President Vladamir Putin, after which the two leaders held a joint press conference in which differences over the approach to Iran’s renegade nuclear program were evident. “We hope in the near future a deal will be announced [that is] acceptable to all the sides,” Putin said. Netanyahu spoke afterwards, saying that he hoped the international community would hold out for a better deal than the one being discussed this week in Geneva. He congratulated his host on the part Russia played in getting the Assad regime in Syria to give up its chemical weapons arsenal and declared that a similar pattern should be followed in Iran.
