ALERT: Philippines
Typhoon Haiyan Hits Philippines
“With 25 million people in its path, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever observed, Super Typhoon Haiyan, made landfall Friday morning in the Philippines, the country’s weather service reported.

Tens of thousands of people in vulnerable areas of the central Philippines were evacuated earlier as the monster storm spun toward the islands.

With sustained winds of 315 kph (195 mph) and gusts as strong as 380 kph (235 mph), Haiyan was likely the strongest tropical cyclone to make landfall anywhere in the world in recorded history. It will take further analysis after the storm passes to determine exactly if it is a record.” (WGN News, Chicago)

Please pray for Grace Nam, National Director and the YFC staff on the island (the Philippines is made up of many islands). The YFC office is located in Manila which is in the southern tip of northern Philippines.

Currently, I have not heard if Manila took a direct hit.

Pray.

  1. The equivalent of a category 5 hurricane the likes of which I don’t think the United States has ever seen, although I’m not a hurricane historian. From the satellite photos and current reporting I’m seeing & hearing, it appears that it transited directly across (east to west) the central islands. Manila does not appear to have taken a direct hit, but pretty darn close, and this monster will be felt by every single island in the chain and Manila will have taken quite a blow despite not having been in the direct path. Having been there a number of times, I pray for the infrastructure & personal property in the Philippines as it is very weak as compared to ours and will suffer greatly under the force of such a strong storm. There are already reports of a hotel collapsing and there will be much damage and destruction. I fear Heaven will be considerably more populated in the next few days. PRAY for these folks!!!
