We ask for prayer following yet another devastating school shooting incident at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado Friday afternoon.
The 18-year-old gunman police say opened fire inside the school was reportedly targeting the teacher who had recently kicked him off the school’s debate team. Karl Halverson Pierson, the man police identified as the gunman, was in a “rage” on Wednesday and yelled at one of his teachers.
The teacher authorities said Pierson targeted was credited for making the “best tactical decision” by attempting to lure him away from the school. It was there that a 15-year-old student was critically injured and Pierson turned the gun on himself according to authorities.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said a second student was actually not injured as thought, he was only covered in blood from the first victim. He also said two Molotov cocktails were found at the scene. One was ignited either “immediately prior to or during the shots being fired,” he said, which released a “significant amount” of smoke. The second one was not deployed and was rendered safe.
Robinson said the initial investigation pointed toward what “may have been some controversy or disagreement between the student and the teacher. We believe his motive may have been a reaction to that.” Robinson continued, the student entered the high school at approximately 12:33 p.m., near the student parking lot and asked for the teacher by name.
