Mary’s Song of Praise: The Magnificat

46 And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
53 he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
55 as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”

56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.
Luke 1:46-56

“Mary’s Song of Praise” is a beautiful, scriptural blend of praise, justice and hope!  Mary joyfully offered overflowing praise to God for what he had done for her and was going to do for the world through his Son, the Messiah, Savior of the world!  The Lord loves and cares for all people and is the champion of the poor, the weary and the vulnerable!  No matter what challenges we face in life, God is in control and he keeps his promises!

While setting up for the Edgewood Mobile Food Pantry Christmas distribution, held at Valley View Christian Church, Chris Tomlin’s version of “My Soul Magnifies the Lord” was playing in the background.  “Mary’s Song of Praise” in Scripture had been on my heart and at that moment I knew I had to share.  Through God’s provision and love shining through those in our church and community every family at the food pantry was blessed with food for their table along with a turkey! Praise God!!!

As we celebrate the birth of Christ and glorify the Lord for all that he has done for us, may we pray for our eyes to be open to the vulnerable around us. To be merciful as God is merciful and seek to relieve the hunger -whatever that may be- of those in need and their hunger for God’s Promises.

“For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given,
    and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!!!  HE HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR US!!!  MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
