I have many friends in Montana and North Dakota. I worked radio in Sindey, Montana and Williston North Dakota during the oil boom of the late 70’s and early 80’s. The ecomony is again booming in this area.
The boom of course brings on problems of it’s own, crime, housing shortages, increased prices on everything and etc. So many natives are concerned about the growing rate of crime brought into the area.
Awhile back we had the story of the Sidney, Montana school teacher murdered by two oil field workers. As far as the economy is concerned, the Mpls StarTribune did this story on North Dakota nearing the production of 1 million barrels of oil a day, go here for the story: https://www.startribune.com/business/235753681.html
Also read this story about Mexican drug cartels that have opened up shop in the area: https://missoulian.com/news/local/feds-say-mexican-drug-cartels-operating-in-bakken-oil-towns/article_98d999e0-f0de-11e2-855d-0019bb2963f4.html
