steve pearce 4Washington, DC (December 17, 2013) – Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following statement on U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon’s ruling that the NSA’s metadata collection program is likely unconstitutional:

“Federal Judge Leon’s decision yesterday yet again demonstrates the NSA’s gross abuse of law.  I have long called on Congress, the American people, and this administration to demand better of its agencies.  The federal government MUST be held accountable for its actions.  I urge my colleagues in the House and the Senate to come together and pass the USA FREEDOM Act, which mandates the NSA and other intelligence agencies once again comply with the laws of our nation, especially the Constitution.”

Pearce is an original cosponsor of the USA FREEDOM Act, which would overhaul and restore the USA PATRIOT Act to its original intent by implementing major reforms to significantly rein in the NSA and other agencies from spying on Americans.
