The Harper Visit
Harper (Illustrative)Right when Israel is coming under increasing international pressure, Jerusalem welcomed one of its staunchest allies on the world stage last week with the visit of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. It is hard to think of another head of government in recent decades who has been so steadfast in his backing of Israel. Given his proven record of support, the people of Israel received Harper with open arms. And he reciprocated with more words of encouragement and admiration for the Jewish state. Now Harper’s stay in Israel included memorable moments at Yad Vashem, at a state dinner held in his honor, and at a wildlife sanctuary named for Harper in the Upper Galilee. But the highlight was his speech before the Knesset, where he told the nation’s leaders that Canada would stand behind them through “fire and water.” And for Christians around the globe who also stand with Israel, it is encouraging to know there is a leader in power right now who shares our faith and biblical worldview. So what message did Prime Minister Harper have for the Israeli public? How is he defending Israel in the halls of power worldwide? And is his support for Israel costing his own country? The Harper Visit. That’s our focus this week here on Front Page Jerusalem! We’ll have highlights from the address by Prime Minister Stephen Harper before the Israeli parliament last week, as well as excerpts from a joint press conference he conducted with Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. You’ll want to  tune in to hear his gracious yet powerful words to his Israeli hosts.

Today, we bring you some of the highlights from his address before the Israeli Knesset, as well as excerpts from a joint press conference which Harper conducted with Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

Parsons-Feast1In today’s Word From Zion segment, we want to continue our coverage of last week’s visit to Israel by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Front Page senior producer David Parsons brings us his thoughts on how the Harper visit reminds us of one of the great paradoxes in the Bible – God’s sovereignty over the affairs of men versus our freedom as humans to make our own moral choices.

Netanyahu Meets the Press!
Recently, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held his annual press conference with the foreign media based in Jerusalem. With the region in such turmoil, there were lots of issues that the journalists wanted the prime minister to address. For instance, Netanyahu had just returned from a quick visit with Jordan’s King Abdullah in Amman and everyone was curious if the two had discussed Israel’s demand for a continuing IDF security presence in the Jordan Valley in any final peace deal with the Palestinians. Now Netanyahu opened the press conference by outlining the three main security challenges facing Israel today. He also sought to puncture three prevailing myths about the region that cloud people’s understanding of the Middle East. These are all myths which the mainstream media often perpetuate in their simplistic and distorted reporting about Israel and its turbulent neighborhood. So what are the most serious security threats to Israel that were identified by Benjamin Netanyahu? What are the three disturbing myths which he sought to debunk? And how did Netanyahu handle some of the toughest questions posed to him by the Jerusalem press corps? Netanyahu Meets the Press! That’s our focus next week here on Front Page Jerusalem! We’ll have excerpts from remarks by Benjamin Netanyahu at his annual appearance before the foreign press corps in Jerusalem, held recently in the Israeli capital. We’ll bring you the answers most of the rest of the media left out. Plus, our weekly Word From Zion segment takes a look at the biblical subject of Restoration. The Scriptures have much to say about God’s work of restoration in our day, including Israel’s incredible return to her ancient homeland.
