Have you ever played the blindfold game? You know the one where someone places a blindfold over your eyes. Hopefully they placed it over your eyes well enough you couldn’t peek. I know I’d try to find a way to peek. (I’m sure I’m not the only one!) And then someone else is assigned to give you instructions on where to go. They are to guide you around obstacles for you to safely reach the end destination. It is nerve racking as you have no idea where you are and what kind of obstacles there are, especially if you’re outdoors. You are to follow your partner’s instructions. They may go something like this:
- Walk forward six steps.
- Now turn left.
- Reach out with your left hand to grab the railing. And then take five steps.
- Now get down on all fours to crawl through a small space.
All this time you are wondering where you are! Because of the unknown, uncertainty fills your mind wondering what you will encounter before you reach the finish line. But you press on in order not to look foolish and hopefully win the prize.
That’s a lot what our faith walk is like with the Lord. We do not know what obstacles lie ahead of us. Though we are not blindfolded, we don’t see all the obstructions that are ahead of us.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV).
When we walk with God as our Guide, we walk by faith. He gives us the instructions we need to live the life He has for us at that moment. I have found in my faith walk with Him, He gives me a vision, which is like the finish line, and what step I need to take for that moment. He has yet to reveal the complete obstacle course. Perhaps He knows if I saw it, I’d be too afraid to take a step.
This past week I was reminded of this faith walk with Him. For a month I have been praying about a particular meeting I had scheduled to discuss a project. On my way to meet with this person, I felt no sense of direction or what my role was to be on this project. On my drive, I cried out to the Lord, “I have sought You for direction my Lord. I could use some help here as I have no idea what to say.”
I felt peace fill my car and I felt the following words on my heart: Just take the next step.
With God, we walk by faith as He guides us through the obstacles of this life. We know where our finish line is. . . so let’s press on toward that goal!
