US President Barack Obama gave the annual State of the Union address on Tuesday evening, spending most of his time on domestic American issues but also making several dramatic statements on foreign policy. Addressing bills in Congress to add new sanctions on Iran to dissuade it from pursuing its renegade nuclear program while negotiations continue, Obama said; “Let me be clear, if this Congress sends me a new sanctions bill now that threatens to derail these talks, I will veto it. For the sake of our national security, we must give diplomacy a chance to succeed.
