Pre-filed bills and resolutions
Already a couple bills of interest have appeared and have been pre-filed.
This year, there are many pieces of legislation that may be of interest to us. Among them is Senate Joint Resolution 6, introduced by Sen. William Sharer and Rep. Nora Espinoza. The resolution proposes an amendment to the New Mexico Constitution which would define marriage as between one man and one woman. (Read SJR 6 here.)
In the House, HR 1 has been introduced by Rep. Yvette Herrell and would commend Israel and recognize New Mexico’s support of Israel.(Read HR 1 here.)
One piece of legislation that has had citizens across the state stirred up is a gun control bill which would close down gun shows– HB 44. It is a bill like the one introduced last year by Rep. Miguel Garcia. Last year after citizens of New Mexico stood up and emailed their representatives, many members of the House of Representatives commented about the emails that came pouring in and by the end of session thousands of emails had reached members of the House, on the gun control issue alone! (Read HB 44 here.)
