As occurs each year, the United States and South Korea will conduct military training drills and quite obviously, that training is primarily tuned to defending the South against North Korea as the two are still technically at war with each other.

Last week, North Korea demanded that South Korea and the United States cancel annual military training exercises planned for February and March, saying the drills were a “dangerous” provocation that could push the situation on the Korean Peninsula to a catastrophe. The North’s state news agency, KCNA, quoted a committee in charge of efforts to promote Korean unification as saying the drills have “created such a deplorable situation in which huge aggression troops of the U.S. are deployed in areas close to the Military Demarcation Line.”

UPI reports that a statement from the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said, “We sternly warn the U.S. and the South Korean authorities to stop the dangerous military exercises which may push the situation on the peninsula and the North-South ties to a catastrophe.”

Defense-oriented drills such as the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle exercises are designed to help to bolster security on the peninsula and to highlight the longstanding military partnership between the two countries but North Korea describes the drills as a prelude to invasion. In 2013, the North warned the top American commander in South Korea of “miserable destruction” if the U.S. military pressed ahead with the same exercises scheduled to begin next month. The North said the announcement of this year’s drills “is little short of the declaration of a total nuclear stand-off,” adding the exercises will cause the North-South ties to plunge into an “unimaginable holocaust and that disaster will follow should they go ahead with the nuclear war drills and make military provocation, defying our warning,” according to UPI.

South Korea said the drills will go ahead as planned and that North Korea’s military has shown no sign of unusual activity, according to a Reuters report. “If North Korea actually commits military aggression at the excuse of what is a normal exercise we conduct as preparation for emergency, our military will mercilessly and decisively punish them,” South Korea’s Defense Ministry spokesman Kim Min Seok told reporters.

North Korea still faces worldwide condemnation for its continued nuclear and missile testing in direct defiance to U.N. Security Council orders and face more sanctions and international isolation should they continue.

After serving in the United States Navy for 22 years I retired from the service late in 1991. Having always loved the southwest, shortly after retiring, I moved to the Albuquerque area where I have resided since. Initially I worked as a contractor for approximately 6 years doing cable construction work. That becoming a little dangerous, at an elevated age, I moved into the retail store management environment managing convenience stores for roughly 16 years. With several disabilities, I am now fully retired and am getting more involved with helping Pastor Dewey & Pastor Paul with their operations at FGGAM which pleases my heart greatly as it truly is - "For God's Glory Alone". I met my precious wife Sandy here in Albuquerque and we have been extremely happily married for 18 years and I am the very proud father to Sandy's wonderful children, Tiana, our daughter, Ryan & Ross, our two sons, and proud grandparents to 5 wonderful grandchildren. We attend Christ Full Deliverance Ministries in Rio Rancho which is lead by Pastor's Marty & Paulette Cooper along with Elder Mable Lopez as regular members. Most of my time is now spent split between my family, my church & helping the Pastors by writing here on the FGGAM website and doing everything I can to support this fantastic ministry in the service of our Lord. Praise to GOD & GOD Bless to ALL! UPDATED 2021: Rick and Sandy moved to Florida a few years ago. We adore them and we pray for Rick as he misses Sandy so very, very much!
