“Since he has been Pope, Francis has expressed a desire for unity with the Eastern Orthodox, the Anglicans, and many other major Protestant denominations.  But more than a few eyebrows were raised when he recently sent a video message to Kenneth Copeland and his congregation.  At the time that the video message was played to the congregation, one speaker declared that “Luther’s protest is over”…[i]

At the end of the meeting Kenneth Copeland said that “Heaven is thrilled over this.”[ii]

Back in 2013 Pope Francis commented in an address of unity that the unity of faith includes the Muslims stating “I then greet and cordially thank you all, dear friends belonging to other religious traditions; first of all the Muslims, who worship the one God, living and merciful, and call upon Him in prayer, and all of you. I really appreciate your presence: in it I see a tangible sign of the will to grow in mutual esteem and cooperation for the common good of humanity.”[iii]

The Pope goes on express in a radio broadcast on the foundation of peace that all are redeemed, even atheist.

“The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone! And this Blood makes us children of God of the first class! We are created children in the likeness of God and the Blood of Christ has redeemed us all! And we all have a duty to do good. And this commandment for everyone to do good, I think, is a beautiful path towards peace. If we, each doing our own part, if we do good to others, if we meet there, doing good, and we go slowly, gently, little by little, we will make that culture of encounter: we need that so much. We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.”[iv]

As time draws closer to the return of Jesus Christ the call for unity among faiths will get stronger. The unity of faith for the Christian is the unity of Jesus Christ being the only way unto salvation.

1 Tim 4:1: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (KJV)

John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV)
