I loved watching Johnny Morris on KOAT TV! Such a wonderful man! I just got the news of his passing. Johnny served us all so very well with his excellent broadcasting, but more importantly, being a super human being! Longtime KOAT anchor Johnny Morris dies I did not know that he started in broadcasting in my home state of Minnesota, at a radio station in Mankato! Please keep Johnny’s family and many, many friends in your prayers.
KOB TV’s Steve Stucker posted this on Feb. 28th, 2014:
From Steve Stucker: Albuquerque TV legend Johnny Morris turns 90 today! John Morris Wigren you are just an all around GREAT guy, and we wish you many more happy years! From Wikipedia: Channel 4, KOB TV, was never able to overtake KOAT in the news ratings, largely due to the staying power of anchor Johnny Morris and a folksy weatherman Howard Morgan. Knipfing, now in his third stint at KRQE, remains a fixture in the local TV news scene.
Great to see you again! Always loved watching the news when you were anchor. I always laugh when I think of the time you said to Howard Morgan (You loved to tease him, and he was showing off some flowers from his famous home-garden) you said to him, “Why Howard, I didn’t know you were a flower arranger…” Howard got this funny look on his face and said “I DON’T, arrange flowers!” I laughed so hard and never forgot that exchange. You really burned him up. I liked Howard and his crazy smile. Johnny I hope you have many more years and that they be good ones — and hopefully you still live in New Mexico? Sincerely, Martin
