It has been announced that Albuquerque Mayor Berry, a very sincere man, is forming a task force to look into the death of Omaree Varela, the young boy who was apparently killed by his Mother, kicked to death.
Plenty of blame to go around in this extreme tragedy.
Is a Task Force the result of empathy? The need to do something? I believe so.
It seems they are formed out of tragedy as people look for something to do to to satisfy their need to take action, when we really know deep down their is not much we can do.
You cannot regulate morality.
There have been more task forces formed in New Mexico and Washington in the last few years, you would think all our problems would be gone by now, instead our problems as a society grow and grow. You can not just satisfy your need to feel good about forming a task force and having meetings. All talk, no action. Or the action you take cannot stick
My answer will cause many to groan and turn their faces, Jesus Christ.
We must turn away from our wicked ways, Albuquerque continues to be an abortion factory, a Albuquerque school teacher told me last week that children are going hungry in this state, not enough food, drug abuse is a huge problem in the homes of children.
I moved to New Mexico in 1995 and ever since then I have heard how bad CYFD is! Since 1995, that’s what? 19 years? It seems that New Mexico lets CYFD be CYFD, no matter who is Governor, or in the Legislature. The state government, including the people of this state, let this dysfunctional thing continue.
I have heard since day one how bad the drop rate in the schools is , and it continues, maybe a bit better. I hear all the time from local business people many kid’s still can’t write correctly.
I have heard how bad domestic abuse is in this state, near the top in the nation, Been hearing that since 1995.
So the answer is another task force?
In all my nearly 40 years in media, I am sick and tired of task forces and all the politics when it comes to tragedies like little Omaree, he deserves better, just as all children do.
A few years ago in New Mexico when I was at KKIM radio, we had the death of the baby in Albuquerque that was killed by it’s own Mother and buried in a city park. She had just been to a city police station asking for help.
I am sick and tired of writing columns like this.

US Navy task forces, groups, units, etc. referenced in the first para are formulated with groups of ships, aircraft or personnel. The ships and aircraft have big guns and the personnel are well armed. A “unit or formation” properly armed, trained and informed is a powerful force indeed.
For the Christian, we are well armed with God’s Word and have available to us a clergy and a training manual to train and inform us.
However, until we learn to band together and work as a task force for GOD, our ability to battle the force(s) of evil may be somewhat limited!
Christian’s must unite and fight “For God’s Glory Alone”!!!!!
Thanks Dewey, for this passionate article!! We know that Christ is the only answer and in a dark world the most vulnerable suffer the consequences of sin. Because of our knowledge in Christ it is especially bitter to know what an “easy” solution to societal problems is available! No 911 operator can take the place of God, BUT HE can use that operator, that officer and yes Dewey, even the Major to shine a light into the darkness.
Let us continue to pray for those lost looking for answers and believing the lies of the enemy that God’s grace and mercy can not cover them.
