From ICEJ News: The Lower House of Jordan’s parliament was the scene of stormy debate on Tuesday with several legislators demanding an annulment to the peace treaty with Israel after reports emerged that Israel’s Knesset had held a debate on extending Israeli sovereignty to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. Several Jordanian MPs declared that the Knesset debate amounted to a conspiracy aimed at stripping the Hashemite Kingdom of its role as custodian of the Islamic and Christian shrines in Jerusalem and bring the city under full Jewish control. “Not one and not even 1,000 Knesset members can cancel the Hashemite custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy shrines in Jerusalem,” Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said last week. In related news, Jordan’s Tourism Board announced plans this week to promote Jordan as the real “Holy Land” ahead of a visit by Pope Francis scheduled for May.
