Cops TV showWent out to pick up my Albuquerque Journal in the driveway at 5:30am ….ugly, ugly headlines. Change of hearts is needed so badly in America. It’s just not Albuquerque, it’s nationwide, even in rural America. Crime, crime, crime and more VIOLENT CRIME! Look at these headlines in today’s Journal:

THREE STABBED IN NORTH VALLEY, 10 YEAR OLD GIRL ‘CRITICAL’

Another crime against a child in New Mexico. This past week we had a 12 yeard old murdered by another teen in Valencia County. The tragic list keeps growing. The New Mexico Legislature just ended their yearly session without addressing violent crime in the state.

EIGHT APD ACADEMY STAFF MEMBERS INVESTIGATED

The bad news just keeps coming for the Albuquerque Police Department, more and more monkey business. APD has cost the tax payers of the city millions of dollars over the last few years with bad behavior. It’s asking a lot of the new Chief, Gorden Eden, to end all the bad behavior.

YOUTH RANCH SETTLES SUIT AGAINST CYFD

This story has been hard to understand and track….the Youth Ranch in southern New Mexico that allegedly beat and shackled teenage boys, ugly stuff.

Then there is this headline in a column by Joline Gutierrez on the front page also:

‘COPS’ FILMING THE LEAST OF OUR CRIME WORRIES

Joline talks about Mayor Berry’s protest of having the TV show ‘COPS’ coming back into Bernalillo County and filming. Sheriff Dan Houston has welcomed them back. Former Mayor Mary Chavez banned the show from the city and Mayor Berry wants nothing to do with the show. Are officials afraid of the TRUE STORY being told? Albuquerque has become a very violent city. I personally have had my friends at APD and the Sheriff’s Dept. tell me they are very concerned about how violent crime has become in the city and county. One Bernalillo Deputy with 25 years of service told me the other day at the Post Office, “it’s unbelievable the amount of violence in the county.” Recently, I have seen more comments by Mayor Berry about not wanting ‘COPS’ filmed in the city, than speaking out about crime in the city. I know the Mayor has appointed a new Chief to head the Police Dept. but the Mayor is asking a lot of this one man, Gorden Eden, who has such a solid foundation of law enforcement, but he has his hands full just trying to change the ‘culture’ of APD. I also see that the Hispano Chamber has also come out against ‘COPS’ filming in the Bernalillo County as other Political leaders have.

I believe they are very concerned  about what the TV show ‘COPS’ could to businesses moving here and the tourism industry.

  1. It is unfortunate that the few bad ones are making the whole department look bad. We have some very good officers in our PD and I think they will have a better work environment with the new chief.
