Forces loyal to the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad made a complaint to the UN Thursday about airstrikes by Israel earlier in the week which it said was in retaliation for a roadside bomb attack on an Israeli military vehicle. The regime claimed that the explosion was caused by an old landmine, and was not a deliberate attack. The complaint also demanded that Israel be condemned by the UN Security Council for its “assistance to terrorist organizations in the demilitarized zone,” an apparent reference to Israel’s treatment of Syrian civilians who have been wounded by fighting in the area.
