The 23-year-old Watson describes herself as more spiritual than religious, with a sort of “universalist” belief in a “higher power.”
She defends the “artistic license” the movie takes with the Bible’s story of the ark and the flood, noting that if the film had literally followed the Scripture narrative, Noah would not speak until the end of the movie and his wife and daughters-in-law would almost disappear from the story.
Watson plays a daughter-in-law of Noah, who is portrayed by Russell Crowe. The film has opened overseas and debuts in U.S. theaters this week.
