Pino Fire Update – 8:50 pm Saturday night March 29th.

Start Location: #1 Pino Road, west of Rio Grande just north of the Socorro/Valencia County New Mexico Line and Highway 346,.
Cause of Fire: person caused – ditch burning – A citation has been issued to the landowner.
Area Vegetation: grass, brush, salt cedar
Acres Burned: 198 acres. (Numbers from this morning’s GPS flight were re-adjusted and an additional acre was added)
Ownership(s): Private / Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District

Structures Threatened: 5 to 6 residences are near but not in immediate threat

Situation: All sides of the fire have had the forward progress stopped by crews. Crews made good progress throughout the day building and maintaining containment lines. Fire activity diminished considerably by late this afternoon. Crews will remain on the fire overnight to patrol and monitor containment lines and respond to flare ups and hot spots. Some burnouts may still be conducted to further contain any potential spread of the fire, ahead of tomorrow’s forecasted high winds. The fire is 25% contained.
