A candidate only needs to receive 20 percent of the vote to land on the primary ballot. Because Wey garnered the greater number of votes in the pre-primary, he will be listed first on the primary ballot.
But David Clements had a strong showing and will hope that leads to victory against the stronger campaign chest of Allen Weh.
“You could argue that the win for Clements that he earned nearly 50% of the vote as a new comer”, stated Janice Arnold-Jones when commenting on today’s pre-primary vote to FGGAM’s Dewey Moede.
In a press release sent out Saturday, Clements’ campaign described the candidates strong showing as a shock to party insiders and observers. The release attributed the close call to the following:
Weh’s campaign met spirited resistance from Clements, who repeatedly held the former state Republican chairman’s feet to the fire for being censured by Rep. party leadership during Weh’s 2010 run for governor
The victor of the June 3rd primary will face off against sitting senator Tom Udall.
In the immortal words of Han Solo, “Don’t get cocky kid!”. In order to defeat a sitting US Democrat Senator in a heavily democratic state, you need more than a positive attitude. You need to know what you believe and you need to live it out.
