CARTOON BOOK ABOUT GAMBLING BY NEW MEXICAN, LINO E. MONDRAGON
Fellow New Mexican and artist, Lino E. Mondragon, has written and illustrated a book of cartoons about, “Ways to lose your money at the Casino, Roulette, Dice, Poker, Bingo, and Slot Machines.”
Full of insights about the gambling menace in New Mexican, Mondragon’s book with cartoons is not written to generate a lot of laughs, but to reveal insight (some firsthand, from what Mondragon reports) into the gambling industry’s attack on New Mexicans.
One cartoon character comments on the vile practice of allowing debit cards to feed slots in California. His companion replies, “Not only in California but all over the states especially in New Mexico. The poor are the ones that are keeping the casinos in business.”
Amos speaks the truth. Studies show that the poor spend proportionally much more of their income on slots than the moderate to upper income citizens. The studies also indicate that from 45 to 55 percent of casino income comes from problem gamblers, another fact that is alluded to in the book.
The book can be purchased at Amazon. com.
Stop Predatory Gambling New Mexico is glad that people like Lino Mondragon are willing to step up and speak out against the casino/government complex that exploits its citizens.
