Jews in Ukraine’s eastern city of Donetsk, scene of fierce fighting between Ukranian government troops and separatist rebels the government in Kiev accuses Russia of backing and arming, an 11,000 member Jewish community nervously tries to stay out of the way. “It’s a tradition that the Jews are always guilty for all of our problems,” Yaakov Virin, the editor of Donetsk’s Jewish newspaper, told the Jerusalem Post. Other community leaders agreed, saying the city’s Jews are trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy while some explore options for emigrating before things get worse.
