The Syrian civil war, which has claimed over 150,000 lives in three years with hundreds of thousands more wounded and displaced, has also resulted in the destruction of much of the country and reports this week indicate that the Eliyahu Hanabi Synagogue in in the Jobar neighborhood of Damascus has joined the list of historic buildings destroyed in the fighting. Elsewhere, AFP reported that Fawzi Ayoub, a senior commander with the Lebanese Shi’ite terror militia Hezbollah who the American FBI had designated as one of the most dangerous men alive, was killed during fighting in Syria over the weekend.
