We have been reporting on a string of tax increases or proposed tax increases. The Water Authority just increased our water bills even after tax payers did what they were asked to do, conserve water, so the prize was a tax increase. Albuquerque wants more tax payer dollars for trash pick-up, for helping the mentally ill, homelessness and addiction. I of course are for helping the mentally ill, homeless folks and people that are addicted to drugs. I want to see this plan being proposed by City Council members. The church should be active in helping these folks, FGGAM, as small as we are, does street ministry. It seems to me that this proposal is some what of a “knee jerk” reaction to recent problems. It needs much thought and planning, not just quick passage. Now comes the news from the Albuquerque Journal’s Friday edition that Bernalillo County may slap homeowners with a tax increase this fall to raise $2.8 million a year to buy and maintain open space lands. Where does it end? This area has been hit hard by a bad economy and there is little to no recovery. Intel may have more layoffs or leave, that comes from people in the know. Whose watching the hen house? It seems the only answer these politicians have, is to raise taxes.
