GUILT * CONVICTION * GODLY SORROW * CONDEMNATION
What’s the difference?
GUILT
Jesus forgave you – now YOU forgive YOU.
Colossians 3:13 Forebearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any; even as Christ forgave yo, so also do ye.
In this verse, the New Testament Greek word for
“one another” includes THEMSELF!
Our hearts are “sprinkled” …
Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having out hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
We look forward, not backward…
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto things which are before.
CONVICTION
the Holy Spirit convicts and reproves.
John 16:8 And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.
Conviction leads to confession and repentance.
Psalm 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto Thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and Thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.
GODLY SORROW
Leads to repentance.
Leads to salvation.
God’s discipline for our own good.
2Corinthians 7:10 For Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
Psalm 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now I have kept Thy Word.
Psalm 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Thy statutes.
CONDEMNATION
there is NONE!!
2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new.
Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
John 3:17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Revelation 12:10-11 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of God, and the power of His Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the Blood of the Lamb, and by the Word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives even unto the death.
1John 3:20 For is our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
