Last weekend I drove the hour and a half drive to a Christian Life Center to drop off my prayer letters for a group of teens, team advisors and leaders for a 4 day retreat. These precious people all made in the image of Christ said yes to the call to retreat away with the Creator of the Universe. Together they were spending time on reflection, theology and community and seeking direction and strength from the one that died for them. Being a teen and all the challenges those years can bring both positive and negative, I decided I would write a prayer letter for each of them. This is what I penned, this is what I prayed:

Lord, thank you today for each of the retreatants and team. I thank you each one has been created and uniquely fashioned and made in your image. Lord you said in your word Ask something of me and I will give it to you (1Kings 3:11). My prayer is that one thing asked for would be to be more like you. I pray for every teen God that they would choose the high road. There will be many opportunities to compromise one’s self, beliefs and the person you have made them to be. Jesus thank you with your help they can stand strong, stand against the wiles of the enemy of their soul and live a life of faith.
Today God, I pray that each one would commit to pray, read the Word of God and be in fellowship with other believers. Jeremiah 29:11 states For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. I thank you today that each one you will order their footsteps right to their destiny. Give them courage to try new things, boldness to share their faith and a heart of belief. You said in your Word to believe. If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes (Mark 9:23). Believe big, dream big for you know and serve a big God. You have invited Jesus to live inside your heart therefore your future is limitless. You know a limitless God.
You said if any man lacks wisdom let us ask. Today, I pray for the wisdom of God. Let them be full of knowledge, understanding, wisdom, counsel and might. May your face shine bright upon them and may they be a bright light in this word. May each one love life, enjoy life, laugh often and trust you more. Their future is great for you have put greatness in each one. Let them be excited about the life and the journey you have placed them on. Let them embark on new adventures each day with joy.
Jesus, thank you for meeting with them and they with you this weekend. May their lives be different because they have been in the presence of the Lord. Now may they go and shine their light before men in such a way that they (the world) may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
Go make a difference and light up your world.
I then wanted something tangible, some reminder that would help them remember the weekend, the prayer, their faith. I found some tiny key chain flashlights smaller than your pinky finger with a bright LED light. I wrapped around it the scripture: You are the light of the world Matt 5:14.
This morning, I challenge you to do the same. I pray the same prayer for every person across this globe reading this post today. Take your life and your bright light and go make a difference. Destiny is calling…….You are the light of the world Matthew 5:14.
