Conservatives Prevail In House
Late Friday House conservatives were able to push Speaker John Boehner and his leadership team to pass a better immigration bill. Among other things, this bill provides financial help to border-states that deploy the National Guard to address this crisis. The legislation also attempts to restrict President Obama from unilaterally granting an amnesty to as many as five million illegal immigrants. And it made important changes in current law to speed up deportation.
That is the good news. The bad news is that Harry Reid’s Senate had already left town. Even if they were in session, Reid would not have allowed a vote on the House bill. For all the criticism about a “do nothing” congress, a charge that is used to bash conservatives, the Republican House has passed dozens of conservative laws, all of which have died in Reid’s Senate.
Meanwhile Texas Governor Rick Perry said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union that there are a record number of individuals crossing the U.S. border who are coming from “countries that have substantial terrorist ties.” Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX) on the same program also confirmed that attempts have been made by Iranian terrorists to exploit our open border too.
Calling Hollywood Out
The “deep thinkers” of liberal Hollywood are predictably slamming Israel while enthusiastically portraying Hamas-infested Gaza as the “victim.” Last month such luminaries and foreign policy gurus as Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem signed a public letter with that ludicrous theme.
That Hollywood would come down on the side of the woman-hating, gay-hating Nazi wannabes of Hamas over Israel, the only real democracy in the Middle East, is insane. Many of these Hollywood luminaries pursue “lifestyles” that would get them beheaded in those areas of the world where barbarians like Hamas, ISIS and Hezbollah are in charge.
Fortunately, there are still men like actor Jon Voight, who is willing to speak up in the defense of civilization. Voight wrote his own “open letter” that was published in “The Hollywood Reporter.” Voight did not mince words, writing, “I am heartsick that people like Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem could incite anti-Semitism all over the world and are oblivious to the damage they have caused.” He continued, “You should hang your heads in shame. You should all come forth with deep regrets for what you did, and ask forgiveness from the suffering people in Israel.”
