Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Sochi on Tuesday. Putin reportedly promised his guest to speed the delivery of billions of dollars of advanced military equipment which Egypt purchased from Moscow after the US halted arms shipments in response to the overthrow of the Moslem Brotherhood early last year. Putin also suggested that Egypt abandon its ties to the West and join the customs bloc Russia is attempting to build among former Soviet Republics and allies. “We are actively developing our military and technological cooperation,” Putin told Sisi. “We signed a corresponding protocol in March. We are delivering weapons to Egypt. We are ready to expand this cooperation.” Sisi thanked his host and added “All the people of Egypt are closely watching my visit and expecting a high level of cooperation between our states.
