FBI And New Mexico State Auditor Find Conflicts Of Interest At Albuquerque Charter Schools

I take a story like this to heart, education is our future. For some reason New Mexico continues to struggle so much with it, our neighbor next door, Texas has it figured out. This is not a Republican or Democrat problem,  it is a New Mexico problem.

Corruption in New Mexico: More problems for New Mexico education. Who is watching the hen house? In this case the FBI and State Auditor Hector Balderas.

New Mexico State Auditor Hector Balderas and the FBI have  found conflicts of interest and potential contracting violations at two Albuquerque charter schools, Southwest Secondary Learning Center and Southwest Aeronautics, Mathematics and Science Academy,  that paid more than $1 million to a  company to lease aircraft co-owned by the school’s top administrator and another school official.

Administrator Scott Glasrud has taken a leave of absence amid an FBI investigation. Glasrud also is co-owner of Southwest Educational Consultants Inc. that does business under the name Diamond Aviation. Dolly Juarez also a school official at Southwest Secondary Learning Center in Albuquerque is the other owner of the company.

Why the explosion of Charter Schools in Albuquerque?
The failure of Public Schools? Thousands are leaving Albuquerque Public Schools every year, drop outs. New Mexico continues to fail in education. It is not the Teachers fault, it is the ‘system’. A system that has kicked God out of our schools.

One last item on this, from last report there was no public record who the current board members are of these schools that are under investigation! Whose watching the hen house? The Governor? The Legislature? The Secretary of Education? Just asking on behalf of the citizens of New Mexico. By the way where is Gary King on this?

Thanks to KKIM Radio’s Frank Haley for his assist on this story.
