A last minute agreement by Hamas and other Gaza based terror groups extended the cease-fire for another five days, allowing negotiations to continue despite a barrage of rockets fired into Israel two hours before the cease-fire was set to expire at midnight Wednesday. Israeli aircraft launched retaliatory airstrikes in response to the rockets, but there was no further action by either side and the cease-fire appeared to be holding as of Thursday afternoon. Hamas officials flew from Cairo to Qatar to hold consultations with their leadership who have been safely directing operations from there over the last month of conflict with Israel. Israel’s Channel 2reported on Thursday that Israeli diplomats believe Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, who has been in exile in Qatar for several years, has been behind the refusal of Hamas to agree to a long-term truce.
