Gaza City (Illustrative)A steady barrage of rockets and mortars continued to be fired from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip into Israel over the weekend and continued on Monday morning as efforts in Cairo aimed at reaching an agreement for a long-term truce offered some hope for a conclusion to nearly two months of violence. Israeli aircraft have launched dozens of retaliatory strikes on terrorist infrastructure in the Strip, destroying several targets but causing few deaths. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned during the cabinet meeting on Sunday that Operation Protective Edge could continue into September, adding that “Hamas is paying and will yet pay a heavy price for the crimes that it has perpetrated.
