Negotiations Proceeding In Cairo As Cease-Fire Holds

Israel’s Security cabinet held consultations late into the evening Tuesday to discuss the course of action as a 72 hour cease-fire in the conflict between Israel and terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip appeared to be holding. Israeli envoys have been dispatched to Cairo to take part in indirect negotiations with the terrorist factions in talks which also include interlocutors from the Palestinian Authority, Egypt and the US. Israel’s goals in the talks will focus on preventing Hamas and other terrorist groups from rearming in the short and long terms. Meanwhile, one official described some of the demands put forth by Hamas, such as building a sea and airport in the Strip, as being in “outer space” while others were perhaps more realistic but dependent on assurances of demilitarization.
