Rebel factions and activists in Syria had mixed feelings about US-led airstrikes in Syria on Wednesday. Some complained about civilian casualties from the strikes and others wondering why allied aircraft were sticking to the stated goals of the coalition by mostly striking targets associated with the Islamic State (IS, formally ISIS) terror militia instead of adding strikes against the Assad regime, as the rebel factions were hoping would happen. In fact, regime media claimed on Monday that the US had informed it of the strikes, leaving some Western-backed rebel commanders furious as they had not been informed.
