The US announced on Thursday that retired Marine Corps Gen. John Allen will lead the effort to coordinate an international coalition to fight the Islamic State (IS, formally ISIS) terror militia which already includes almost 40 countries worldwide. However, resistance to US President Barak Obama’s plan to use American air power in support of local ground forces to roll back IS has met with skepticism in some quarters. Rep. Buck McKeon, R-Calif, the chairman of the US House Armed Services Committee, told a conference on Thursday that US ground forces would be needed in any conceivable scenario which gave hope for success in the campaign, as well as long term stabilization of the region.
